I was tasked with optimizing the content on our Optum careers landing page — enhancing the candidate experience through UX writing best practices while leveraging our updated design system and messaging. I partnered with Emily B., Digital Experience Manager, and Heather M., Senior Digital Marketing Specialist.
The Optum careers page serves as an entry point for candidates to explore open roles. But through stakeholder feedback, we determined the existing content was too focused on describing Optum versus highlighting candidate benefits. It also needed to be updated with our new design system. My goal was to redesign the content to speak directly to users and guide them to relevant jobs.
Analyzed existing page copy against Optum's new brand voice and style guidelines, and identified content that needed updating for tone, voice, and messaging.
Reviewed career pages from competitor health tech companies and noted more benefit-driven messaging across the board.
Consulted with talent acquisition stakeholders to understand candidate pain points — the amount of copy was overwhelming for a landing page, it read too much like an "about us" than a careers page, and it needed to be more scannable to drive conversion.
Developed a content strategy to highlight candidate benefits throughout the page, and prioritized simplifying page architecture and enhancing findability.
Focused UX writing changes — direct benefit-driven copy, simplified content architecture, and enhanced accessibility — helped transform the Optum careers page into an experience that speaks directly to candidates. This project demonstrated the tangible improvements UX writing can make in page usability and navigation.
Content audit and optimizations completed within one sprint.
Talent acquisition partners reported positive qualitative feedback on the new messaging.
Conversion rate monitoring is ongoing through the digital experience team — updates will continue once data is available.
